By DEL VILLANUEVA

TANZA, Cavite - Police authorities in this province have intensified the campaign against "loose firearms" following the killing of an eatery owner and another peson in separate shooting incidents in this town last Tuesday.

Supt. Randy Tuano, this town’s police chief. ordered his men to conduct random checkpoint operation particularly at night and to improve police visibility in strategic areas in an effort to deter the activities of criminal elements.

He said that the checkpoint operation must be focused on motorcycle-riding men, particularly those riding in tandem, noting reports that most of the shooting incidents in this town were reportedly commited by men using motorcycles as their getaway vehicles.

He noted the cases of two shooting incidents that happened this week and that claimed the lives of Rodelio Alcala Lopez, 42, single, welder, of Barangay Poblacion 1; and Gener Gasa, businessman, of Barangay Santol, both of this town.

Tuano said that Alcala was sleeping at the terrace of the house owned by Charito Bigalbal when the unidentified assailant shot him once in the head.

The victim died on the spot. The killer fled on board a motorcycle, the police chief said.

Gasa was shot dead while watching television inside his eatery in Poblacion 1, this town. The killer also used a motorcycle as his getaway vehicle.

Superintendent Tuano has ordered a thorough investigation of the two cases in an effort to establish the identities of the killers and to determine their motives.
