Supporters of detained former President Joseph Estrada become the latest signatories to the fifth impeachment complaint to be filed against President Arroyo on July 24, the day she delivers her 6th State-of-the-Nation Address (SoNA).
About 30 additional complainants led by the so-called Erap Five trooped to the House of Representatives yesterday to sign the fifth impeachment complaint.
They comprise the second batch of signatories to the complaint, next to the group of Fr. Rolly de Leon of Norzagaray, Bulacan and several human rights victims and their families, who signed the complaint last Monday.
The Erap Five are composed of Virgilio Eustaquio, chairman of the Union of Masses for Democracy and Justice (UMDJ), Ruben Dionisio, Jose Curameg, Dennis Ibona and Jim Cabauatan.
Curameg, however, did not join the group for being a police officer, Eustaquio said.
The Erap Five had claimed they were abducted and tortured by military intelligence officers last May, for allegedly plotting to assassinate Mrs. Arroyo and some members of the Cabinet.
"Ang karapatang pantao ay pinabayaan at nilapastangan ng kasalukuyang gobyerno," Eustaquio said in a press conference.
The Erap Five and other complainants affixed their signatures on the complaint similar to the one filed last week by the groups of Nini Quezon Avanceña, former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr., Caloocan City Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez and student Abigail Binay.
Meanwhile, members of opposition Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s "Be Not Afraid Movement" are scheduled to sign the fifth impeachment complaint today.
