Ikebana practitioners in Manila as well as in Cebu are busy these days. In Manila, members of Ikebana Host Group II headed by Fely S. Gupit is holding their monthly meeting on Friday, July 14, at the EDSA Garden House at the Manila Seedling Bank, Quezon City.
The Host Group members will showcase their talents during the meeting. With water as their main theme, the group members will use glass vases as containers in their display of individual Ikebana arrangements. The members include Elma Castillo, Jane Chilip, Celia Lazaro, Ramona Lazaro, Margot Perez and Mrs. Gupit.
Margot Perez, a certified teacher of Sogetsu School, will perform an arrangement based on the credo that "Ikebana can be practiced at anytime, in any place by anybody and with whatever material is available." It is in step with contemporary thinking and brings the creativity of the arranger into full play.
Fely S. Gupit, on the other hand, will introduce the art of Saikei (landscape in shallow tray using plants, stones and pebbles), and another miniature landscape, Nature in Colors, again using a wide shallow tray, creating a mountainside planting of trees, flowering shrubs, weeds and grasses in various hues. A cascading falls from the mountain running down into a stream completes the picturesque scen.
Meanwhile, the International Cebu Ikebana members recently held their elections, electing Carmen Go as president. They were inducted into office by Jaime Picornell, honorary consul of Spain in Cebu.
