Is it church meddling or duty to right a wrong?
BASED on her reading of the encyclical "Deus Caritas Est" given her by Pope Benedict XVI, President Arroyo has accused Msgr. Deogracias Iñiguez of violating church doctrine, if not also the constitutional provision on the separation of church and state when he filed his impeachment complaint against her.

World Population Day 2006: Young People
WORLD Population Day was inaugurated in 1988 by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to mark July 11, 1987, when the world’s population hit five billion. The 85th Year of the Mongolian People’s Democratic Revolution
MONGOLIA has had a long history of settlement dating back to pre-historic times. Most of its early settlers were nomads who from time to time formed great confederations. In the early 13th century, the Mongol nation was born under the leadership of a chieftain known as Temujin, who was crowned Genghis Khan.

Amistad Fil-Hispana
ON Filipino-Spanish friendship day (30 June), I leafed through Revolucion Filipina: Memorias intimas by Manuel Sityar, an engaging book which I bought at the UP, some years ago. Soon after, Sityar was promoted to colonel: "I served my Father (Spain) with my blood, now it is time to serve my Mother (Filipinas) with my blood" was Sityar’s poignant declaration.

Promoting nat’l retirement industry
WHEN retired PNP General Edgar Aglipay was called by the President from Washington to offer him a job as Chairman of the Philippine Retirement Authority, he didn’t know anything about that agency. "We should help sell the country," the President told him. He was mandated to create a national retirement industry program.

Repairing ‘new’ roads

As time goes by
ON its 42nd year of existence, Banco Filipino Savings and Mortgage Bank might well reflect on Alexander Pope’s lament that "years following years steal something every day." BF has lost half of its forty years in protracted legal battle with the Central Bank, the latest issue being the latter’s "personality."
