LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) is demanding an explanation from the Transmission Corp. (Transco) on the unscheduled power interruptions in the past several days, especially last Sunday, that caused an uproar among power consumers in Baguio City and Benguet.
Beneco records show that power interruptions hit most parts of Baguio City and the province, starting at the wee hours of last July 2.
Power supply was restored at about 9:57 a.m. of the same day, while most Filipinos were eagerly waiting for the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Mexican Oscar Larios.
As in the past, consumers blamed Beneco for the unscheduled interruption and showed their indignation against the utility firm through telephone calls, text messages and the broadcast media.
However, Beneco General Manager Gerardo P. Verzosa said that the power interruption was caused by the unknown problem that occured in the 69-kilovolt transmission line of Transco, and Beneco had nothing to do with the power outage.
It was learned that when Transco’s 69-kv transmission line is down, it causes power outages in Beneco’s four substations, affecting thousands of electric power consumers in Baguio and Benguet.
Verzosa said that Transco must inform the cooperative of the real cause of the power outage, adding that Benecowill also explain to its thousands of consumers why the problem occurred.
Beneco has informed Transco that concerned consumers questioned the cooperative about the unscheduled power interruption, and why it happened on the day of the live telecast of the Pacquiao-Larios bout.
Verzosa assured consumers that the electric cooperative is doing its best to deliver efficient and effective service to 100,000 members.
