BF RESORT Village sustained its fine form and dominated the field at Valley Golf Club the way it did at Forest Hills as it assembled a tournament best 308 to top the Nokia 3 division of the the 2006 Nokia Cup intervillage golf tournament in Antipolo Monday.
Robert Reyes, a 10handicapper, atoned for his so-so 31-point output in the first round of the 36-hole elims at Forest Hills by firing the maximum 40 points under the Stableford scoring system as he powered the BFRV golfers’ romp into the grand finals of the tournament sponsored by Nokia.
BF Resort thus wound up with a 601, counting its first round score of 286, to post a seven-point victory over the combined team of Cinco Hermanos/Monte Vista, which turned in a 300 for a 594.
Valle Verde 3/5 shot a 300 for a 582 as it finished third while former champion Greenhills I rallied with a 305 to snatch fourth place with a 571 and the last berth in the grand finals of this event supported by Pan West, BJ Marthel International, Aktivade Thirst Quencher, Copacabana Apartment-Hotel, ImmuVit Multi Vitamins, CIBA Vision, Pisanti, Agua Vida-Magallanes, Forth & Tay and Citibank.
San Lorenzo struggled with a 282 and slid to fifth with a 571.
Only the top four teams advanced to the grand finals slated in November as they joined the other top finishers in the Nokia 1 and 2 elims, including Hillsborough, La Vista, Tahanan, Xavierville, Pilar Village, Ayala Alabang, Don Enrique Heights and Magallanes.
Four others - Ed Cabrera, Louie Bustamante, Henry Medina and Ed Zara - scored 39 points apiece, Jun Cantos shot a 38 while Jose Lalisan and Arnold Jumalon tossed in 37 points each as BF Resort secured the No. 1 spot in its own side of the elims.
Cabrera, a 14-handicapper, also went on to rule the individual competition in Group 3 while Ting Antonio and Roger Manjares, both of Cinco Hermanos/Monte Vista took the Group 4 and 5 plums, respectively.
Raffy Garcia also shot a 40 for Cinco Hermanos/Monte Vista, which also drew solid games from Ding Garcia and Antonio (39 points each), and Homer Ortega, Manjares, Celso Montalla, Fel Ramoy and Feliciano Belizario (38 points apiece). Hermie Orbe and Danilo Relucio paced Valle Verde 3/5 with 39 points each.
