Agricultural cooperatives nationwide pitted their homegrown products against the best from various regions to bring home honors during the 5th Agraryo Trade Fair held recently as part of the 18th anniversary celebration of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
The awards are given out annually to encourage more agrarian reform communities and beneficiaries to discover more ways to improve their products to make them at par with internationally-recognized standards. The theme of this year’s trade fair was "Market Opportunities Toward Globalization."
Organized by the DAR with support of the Philippine Fruit and Vegetable Industries, Inc., the fair gave out awards in nine categories this year. Under the Best Processed Foods category, the winners were Smoked Sardines from Oriental Mindoro, Batangas Honey Vinegar from Batangas, Papaya Pickles from Tarlac, LANNDS Bucarillo from Zamboanga del Norte, Reina Peanut Butter from Quezon, and Coco Jam with Pili Nuts from Camarines Sur.
Under the Best Beverage category, the winners were Salabat from Davao del Norte, Kalamansi Concentrate with Ginger and Honey from Oriental Mindoro, and Batangueño Tamarind Wine from Batangas. Named Best Non-Food Products were Abaca Fiber Bag from Negros Oriental, Bamboo Lampshade from Cavite, Folding Wooden Chair from Ifugao, Lamcapanay Sala Set from Zamboanga del Sur, and Aba Mat Fiber from Albay.
Other winners were Latundan Banana from Misamis Oriental (Best Fresh Produce), Ube Wine from Benguet (Best Rookie Product), Batanes Turmeric Powder from Batanes (Best in Packaging), Tatak Bulakenyo (Best Commercial Booth), DTI (Best Institutional Booth), and DAR Region XIII (Best Regional Booth).
