A DJ to excite you at Rockwell
Teak Bistro, the innovative fine dining place at the Power Plant Mall in Makati’s Rockwell Center, has come up with exhilirating DJ-provided music for its big Friday and Saturday night crowds.
At exactly 10 p.m., Arnel Castillo, 42, presides over his state-of-the-art sound system with an extensive collection of music on CDS and vinyls for the rapt Teak audience.
The timing is perfect. After the sundown crowd has settled down from the bar to the dining tables feasting on the fine Filipino international cuisine prepared by the amiable chef Ed Quimson, they are ready to listen or even dance to the DJ’s music.
Castillo, who has worked all over Asia including Beijing in China, is a good reader of crowds.
At Teak Bistro, the Pasig-born DJ has realized that the audiences there are listening, rather than dancing, ones.
And he has found the perfect music for them: 1990s music that reminds audiences of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and many others including Filipino bands and singers.
At the electronic helm, one can see that, for Castillo, being a DJ is not just a full time career, but a passion.
He is not only savvy about what music people want to hear, he is also savvy about emerging technologies.
He can also assume other responsibilities to ensure the evening’s success such as emceeing, lighting and sound engineering.
So what’s next for Teak Bistro’s mobile DJ?
"I am preparing to return to Beijing during the Summer Olympics in 2008," he declares.
He first saw Beijing in 1995 when China was just starting with its political, economic and social advancement.
It is now a 21st century China, and a more sophisticated Castillo is ready to conquer it with his mobile DJ music.
