From now until the second half of this year, expect chipmaking giant Intel to flex its multi-million marketing muscle as it readies to unveil a new technology platform targetted mainly at business customers in the country.
Called Intel vPro, the new marketing initiative is similar to that of Centrino mobile technology platform which the company successfully launched a few years back. Only this time, the new brand is aimed squarely at business users.
Sunil Kaimal, regional marketing manager at Intel Asia Pacific, said during a recent briefing to the local IT press that the new initiative was announced in April but it will only be in the second half of 2006 that hardware and solutions based on the platform will become available.
"Initially, the technology platform will be available for desktops. In 2007, it will be available for laptops," said the Beijingbased executive.
As part of efforts to build up the brand, Kaimal said Intel is boosting its marketing blitz and collaboration with business partners and PC distributors to create awareness.
"We’re actually aiming to duplicate the success we had with the Centrino mobile technology platform," said Kaimal, referring to the first technology platform launched by Intel.
According to the official, Intel vPro will come with dual-core technology that supports 64-bit applications. Also included is a networking chipset and extensive features for remote management of PCs and built-in virtualization technology.
With the vPro’s Active Management Technology, users can discover PCs and their configuration even if unbootable or turned off. They can also remotely repair a PC almost in every case.
On the security side, the new technology is capable of preventing critical security and management agents from being disabled. At the same time, it also allows PCs to detect and block anomalous network behavior. (Melvin G. Calimag)
