THE word franchising has been used to describe many different forms of business relationships that include licensing, distributor, and agency arrangements. The more popular use of the term has arisen from the development of what is called business format franchising, which allows the franchisor to make use of an entire package that includes all the elements necessary to establish a business and run it with assistance.
In the Philippines, franchising may not be considered a sunshine industry like the call center services but is almost in that category in terms of growth and expansion plans. To date, there are 625 franchise businesses in the country and they are all going great.
The Philippine Franchising Association holds a yearly event which brings together a wide assortment of franchise enterprises and enthusiasts. They will hold the biggest and longest running one stop franchise show in the Philippines from July 14-16, 2006, at the World Trade Center Manila. The 14th Philippine International Franchise Conference and Expo 2006 offers four events in one – a plenary session, educational sessions, franchise seminars, and an expo show. Local and international franchise gurus will take part in programs which will have presentations on selecting a business venture that is right for each investor.
There are always costs associated with setting up your own business, and owning a franchise is no different. Deciding to go with a franchising venture may increase one’s start-up costs but it opens up a world of opportunities to the owner of a well-known business which already has market share and brand recognition.
We congratulate the Philippine Franchise Association headed by its Chairman Alegria S. Limjoco and President Robert F. Trotra, its Officers and Members and wish the Philippine International Franchise Conference & Expo 2006 success as its showcases a robust industry that will ensure expanded access of consumers to quality products and services.
