Suggestions for a stylishly practical wedding
spacer

By Dawn Sim-Coloma

• Check your resources. See if you have the time and the capability to do some of the work yourself. Think Martha Stewart. You may be able to make your own packaging for your giveaways or make your own guestbook or gifts for the entourage.

This would also make your wedding more personal and would give you the assurance that the style you have in mind is really what you would get. If you don’t have the time, see if you have friends or family members who would like to help you with some aspects of the wedding. Some people would appreciate involvement in the preparations and would even feel more special when you entrust them with some part of your wedding. Just make sure that the person would really like to do it for you and that you are not imposing the task upon them. Also ensure that they know what you really want so that you don’t end up with something that is totally different from the style or theme of your wedding.

• Consider having an intimate reception. Remember that your wedding is about being with the people you love and care about the most. You don’t need to invite your whole barangay. The money you save on food, if spent elsewhere such as on flowers, a chocolate fountain, or a string quartet can make a big difference. However, if you choose to have a lot of guests, you might want to have cocktails rather than a full-course dinner or hold your reception in a garden or your favorite restaurant instead of a hotel so that you still have the extra funds to enhance the beauty of the venue.

• Get suggestions and recommendations from your coordinator or friends who already got married. It is risky to just book the cheapest supplier you find on the internet or at a bridal fair. You need someone who has dealt with the supplier you want to book and has seen the actual output. Your coordinator should know good and reliable suppliers who are less expensive but do not sacrifice quality. Friends who had beautiful weddings may also be of help in suggesting suppliers they hired and are very happy with. If you liked the style of your friend’s wedding, chances are, his/her supplier can also execute the style that you want.
