Thanks to those terrorist who executed 9-11 attacks, a person leaving from one country to another will undergo numerous security checks before boarding an airplane. My editor told me that airports (around the world, including ours?) have been very strict with security that both hand-carried and checked-in luggage must be searched even when they are locked.
Because of so many security checks, delays in airports is inevitable especially to those who have locks on their bags.The United States government has come up with a committee to solve this problem by putting up the Transportation Security Administration.
This governing body is tasked "to protect the nation’s transportation systems by ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce." Since luggage security is included, even padlocks were given TSA standards.
Victorinox has come up with their own TSA-approved locks. Though it may look like a simple combination padlock, it has a keyhole at the bottom which can only be opened by a TSA key handled only by TSA personnel.
This prevents non-TSA-approved locks to be broken upon physical inspection of luggages. You hear that right. If a locked luggage needs to be opened, the lock will have to be cut off, and it's perfectly legal. To avoid buying too many locks, get one of these right way. (Carlo S. Suerte Felipe)
