Close-up view of Mayon Volcano shows hot lava and steam spewing out of the crater before dawn yesterday during a mild eruption as viewed from Legazpi City in Albay. Authorities raised the alert level and warned residents to keep off the six-kilometer-radius danger zone around the 2,462-meter high volcano. Mayon’s last major eruption was in July, 2001. More than 1,000 people were believed to have perished when the volcano erupted in 1814.
