BASED on her reading of the encyclical "Deus Caritas Est" given her by Pope Benedict XVI, President Arroyo has accused Msgr. Deogracias Iñiguez of violating church doctrine, if not also the constitutional provision on the separation of church and state when he filed his impeachment complaint against her.
State of the Nation Address: Charting the course for a united democratic nation, a better future
IN delivering her sixth State of the Nation Address (SoNA) today, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is expected to define a clearer path for the nation to take towards strengthening the democratic order and ensuring a much more prosperous and brighter future.
SoNA stresses GMA's two obsessions
WE have been asked by the media for advanced copies of this year’s State of the Nation Address (SoNA) but we have politely declined. It is for the simple reason that SoNA is a work very much in progress. As in previous years, the process starts several weeks before SoNA date. This year, the process began when the President convened a series of consultative meetings with local executives and stakeholders coming from what are now known as Super Regions. The notes from these meetings became the basis for the first SoNA draft.
Monotonous evasion
TODAY, the President is supposed "to break the monotony" of SONA by making it "hi-tech" with the support of people’s champions. It would be really something if she broke the monotony of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (a.k.a. Central Bank of the Philippines) defiance of the law with regard to its liabilities to Banco Filipino.

The demand for a sign

Social responsibility programs: The youth sector
THE challenge in every sector is to think way beyond its narrow sectoral interest, and take in the much broader national interest into its program of action. Indeed, every sector needs to specify a few programs of action that would give flesh and substance to its social responsibility, i.e. its concrete contribution towards further building our nation.
