“When I grow up, I want to be a vegetarian.”
I never said it out loud as a kid. Doctors, lawyers, teachers — those are the things that kids should be when they grow up, right? Besides, the only vegetarians I knew then were Buddhists, spaced-out New Agers, and senior citizens on doctors’ orders. But from the time that I first read about vegetarianism in a magazine, I realized that there was something terribly wrong with eating a carcass.

Diwal was not there but a gem of a lady was
The Couples for Christ in Roxas City timed the forum on child-sensitive television with the annual Diwal festival. What better way to showcase the city’s rich marine harvest, thought Fred Roldan, head of the city’s Kids for Christ, than to pair the celebration with a harvest of hearts. Geopolitics and greed reared ugly heads, however; diwal was scarce on the table and heftily priced. Unruffled, city mayor Tony del Rosario made sure other seafood offerings were in abundance and live diwal shellfish graced the giant fishtank at the city hall. And the travel-weary Anak TV team seduced the local parents in attendance at Filamer Auditorium to use the medium cautiously.

Answering the Little Miss Philippines question
When we were still kids, I bet you were also asked the famous Little Ms. Philippines’ question "what would you like to be when you grow up?’’ Our answers pretty much revolved around being a doctor, an astronaut, a newspaper, a celebrity, and a teacher. We were fascinated on the ideas that somebody can detect and cure illnesses, and that a creature in his special suit and a salad bowl-like headdress can float above the earth.
