After posting total sales of .5 billion in 2005 and being named once again the fastest-growing global brand, Korean giant Samsung is looking forward to achieving even higher growth in 2006 with an intensified focus on the highly-lucrative corporate IT segment.
Samsung Asia Pte Ltd. CEO and President Mr. Sang Jin Park revealed this to Manila reporters last Wednesday during the annual Samsung IT Roadshow held at the Harbor Tent of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza. In the event, the company unveiled its premium line-up of notebooks, LCD monitors and printers aimed at the corporate B2B (business to business) segment, particularly Small and Medium Businesses; the Small Office, Home Office (SOHO); and Multinational Companies (MNCs). The new products feature innovative technologies that once again establishes Samsung’s reputation as a prime mover of digital convergence, with a complete suite of solutions for all kinds of business.
“ Our LCD monitors have been No. 1 on a global basis. Now, we are pushing our printers, such as our laser beam printers, especially since it is enjoying No. 2 position in the market. We have also introduced our ultra-thin and light high-end notebooks in such countries as Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia,” Mr. Park said.
He revealed that the corporate IT segment now comprises 20 per cent of Samsung’s total sales, “but eventually we would like to increase it to 60 per cent.” The strategy would be to emphasize on the products’ reliability, performance, ease of use, state-of-the-art design and capacity to meet the lifestyle needs of its users, he stressed.
Mr. Park further stated that the introduction of the new IT products will boost Samsung’s position in the Philippines where it is already an acknowledged leader in consumer electronics and mobile telephony.
“ Definitely, we see a strong showing for Samsung on all fronts in the Philippines this year,” he said. “ In LCD monitors alone, we are creating new markets and with Samsung’s leadership in LCDs, we see LCD edging out CRT monitors in a couple of years,” he added.
Appointed to head Samsung Asia in February 2004, Mr.Park is responsible for driving up regional sales to a record-breaking .9 billion in 2005, or a 60 per cent increase from 2004 figures. He revealed that the region expects 30 per cent growth rate this year, but knowing Samsung’s pioneering penchant to exceed its targets, it will be more. (Annalyn S. Jusay)
