Makro Pilipinas Inc., a joint venture between SM Prime Holdings of the Sy Group and Makro SHV Netherlands, is now tapping the country’s micro retail enterprises as a strategy to further expand its coverage as total solutions provider to local retailers.
The company has just opened its newest branch in Mandaluyong bringing its total number of wholesale stores in the country to 15 with investments reaching P300 million.
During the occasion, Pilipinas Makro president Bunny Khurana said the company is now reaching out to the needs of the sari-sari and carinderia type of businesses, which is in line with President Gloria Arroyo’s 10-point economic recovery agenda to provide more jobs and livelihood opportunities to Filipinos.
Khurana donated to the President’s livelihood projects to these micro enterprises initiatives of the government.
"We are one with the government in its fervent effort to present ways by which the Filipinos can find opportunities to provide their families and become self-sustaining citizens," Khurana said.
To serve the micro retailers, Makro now carries smaller packs that make it more affordable for the budgets of the small sari-sari stores as well as other multi-packs to address the needs of smaller enterprises.
Makro, a pioneer in the self-service, cash and carry distribution system in the country, boasts of products that range from fresh, dry food and non-food items.
