President Arroyo and First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo yesterday celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary with a private dinner and an exchange of gifts.
The First Couple had a quiet dinner with the entire family outside Malacañang Palace last night to celebrate the wedding anniversary, according to the chief aide of the First Gentleman.
As in previous occasions, the President received a bouquet of roses, 11 red and one white, and a special gift from the First Gentleman, said Juris Soliman, chief of staff of Atty. Arroyo.
Early in the afternoon, the First Couple appeared together in Malacañang during the presentation of an ornamental shrub named after the President.
The President and her husband accepted the "Mussaenda Gloria Macapagal Arroyo" hybrid plant, bearing white sepals with tiny empire rose areas and a very thin claret rose margin from officials of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños.
Soliman said the marriage of the First Couple remains strong, with the First Gentleman taking quality time with the entire family especially on special occasions.
"Like Sundays, he doesn’t schedule meetings because they have to be together. They go to mass together, have lunch together and even watch movies together," Soliman told reporters at the Palace.
The First Couple first met in 1967 at a party in Baguio City. They have three children and three grandchildren.
