Young chef-hopeful Melchor Corpuz has proven that even busy students can easily whip up a delicious meal. The 4th Year Hotel & Restaurant Management student of Colegio de Dagupan bagged first place in the Pasta Category of the 101 Ways to Cook Bangus Contest during the recent Dagupan Bangus Festival. For the youngster who has little experience in cooking, his roots played a big part in his recent culinary success. Growing up in a family of cooks laid the foundation of his culinary knowledge.
Still, Melchor knew that it would take more than this to develop exceptional culinary skills. Apart from his family’s culinary background, he strove to learn more by exercising his taste buds. During Friday night gimmicks, he and his friends sample different kinds of food-with pasta being one of their favorites-and from there, Melchor experiments in the kitchen by adding his own flair to the dish. Due to the demands of school life, he knew that he had to learn to concoct meals in the shortest time possible without compromising good taste. From then on, his dishes have been focused on three aspects: creativity, ease of preparation and good taste.
Since cooking pasta requires shorter preparation time, Melchor found out that experimenting on it fits well in his busy schedule. Despite lesser time dedicated to preparation, his pasta experiments did not compromise taste and quality. Proof of which is his winning Creamy White Sauce Spaghetti with Bangus, made especially with EI Real Spaghetti. "EI Real Spaghetti has made it easier for me to experiment on different kinds of pasta. Since the noodles are of good quality, I’m sure that whatever sauce I come up with will definitely go well with it and will taste good," shares Melchor. Most of all, he was able to prove that with proper time management, school and kitchen can mix!
