PHILIPPINE AIR Force held arch-rival Philippine Army to a 4-4 standoff at the start of the second round of the 2006 adidas Futsal Championship at the Blue Eagles Gym in Katipunan, Quezon City.
Emelio Caligdong, Air Force’s most prolific scorer, squeezed past his defenders to score two key goals, the last coming in the 35th minute that tied the contest.
Caligdong’s late-game blast enabled the Armymen, who drew two goals each from Jeffrey Lobaton and Luis Brillantes, enabled Air Force to stay at close second with a 5-1-1 (win-draw-loss) mark.
The Armymen, meanwhile, retained their grip of the solo lead at 6-1-0.
Earlier, Lions Football Club nipped Los Borrachos, 4-3, to climb into a tie for second with El Magistrado (4-0-2) in the men’s second division-B. Los Borrachos dropped to fourth with a 3-0-3 mark.
Other men’s matches saw Philippine Navy upset Pasargad, 5-4, for only its first win in six games, while Superfriends topped Kaya, 3-1 for a 3-0-3 card in the tournament sponsored by adidas in cooperation with the National Capital Region Football Association. Pasargad slid to 2-1-4, and Kaya dropped to 2-0-5.
Also grabbing the solo leadership in the women’s side was Irok, which waylaid Miriam College, 16-1, in one of two women’s matches last Sunday.
Angie Servillon and Marigen Ariel combined for five goals for Irok, while six other girls, including model China Cojuangco, chipped in a goal apiece in the lopsided match.
With its 6th win in as many matches, Irok climbed to the top of the leaderboard with a 6-0-0 card, followed by De La Salle with 5-0-1 and Vintage FC, which swept past Superfriends, 8-0, with a 5-1-1 card.
