Who would have thought that ‘sweet’ would factor into a solution for people with diabetes and their lifestyles? Recently, diabetics as well as their caregivers and healthcare professionals gathered at the launch of The Sweet Life Club, a 24/7 resource on managing diabetes available only in the Philippines.
Spearheaded by Nestle Nutrition with partners Slimmers World International (SWI), Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and Servier Philippines, The Sweet Life Club is a unique and comprehensive collaboration of healthcare industry leaders, which has been acknowledged by the Philippine Diabetes Association. It offers information on nutrition, exercise, medication and monitoring right at their fingertips.
More importantly, its members have the opportunity to join activities and avail of privileges, product samples and services that aim to empower people with diabetes to lead a full life. It’s online site, www.thesweetlifeclub.com, provides most of these offerings at the benefit of one’s home or workplace.
The Sweet Life Premiere
At its launch, The Sweet Life Club was introduced to the media and consumers through a dynamic and interactive programme. From the online registration at the event to the diabetes-friendly cooking session, The Sweet Life Club partners comprehensively featured the facets of the country’s first 24/7 diabetes online resource and support group system.
Upon registration, guests were invited to log into The Sweet Life Club website, which is a free service that caters to those with diabetes and those who care for them as well. This site, the foundation of The Sweet Life Club partnership, is the first of its kind in the Philippines.
The event’s first activity focused on food, which is clearly close to the heart of all Filipinos. Chef Ajie Acroda-Mendoza prepared several sumptuous dishes that were all diabetes-friendly, and delighted guests with the opportunities the club can present to those who have diabetes and those who care for them.
Other portions of the programme highlighted nutrition, exercise, medication and monitoring – all essential aspects in a balanced life for those with diabetes.
In addition to an overview of Nestle Nutrition products, the Registered Nutritionist Dietitian Ditas Sagarbarria was on hand to discuss the balanced diet people with diabetes needed to maintain. Slimmers World International’s Robert Baranda delighted guests with a quick stretching routine, and tips on the most effective workouts for people with diabetes.
Both Servier Philippines’ Maripee Genato and Novo Nordisk’s Cathy Estrella tackled medication concerns, while Johnson & Johnson’s Cecille Peregrino focused on monitoring tools for people with diabetes.
Sweet Treats
Moreover, The Sweet Life Club will hold monthly activities for its members in Metro Manila. "With the high rise of diabetes in the country, Nestle Nutrition is committed to helping people with diabetes and those who care for them maintaing their quality of life," says Habib Chammas, Nestle HealthCare Nutrition Business Head.
