A pre-school exists not just to hone a child’s academic and social skills. It should also sharpen his spirituality, and that of the most important people around him, his parents and yaya.
This, Nina Lopez, owner of Creative Beginners, a pre-school for kids aged 1.6 to six years old along Greenmeadows, Quezon City, believes in. That’s why she has included a spiritual program for her students’ parents and their yayas in the yearly activity lineup.
For parents, it’s a romantic weekend retreat out-of-town to strengthen their marriage. Moms also join weekly Bible study sessions for two-and-a-half hours.
Yayas undergo a quarterly spiritual seminar in the school’s sprawling grounds.
The results are encouraging thus far. Joanne Gonzaga, whose son studied in the school for a year, says, "Timing of the spiritual seminar couldn’t have been more perfect. My mom just passed away and I was devastated. The grief was still fresh. The seminar taught me the power of prayers. It opened up my spiritual life.’’
Even now that her son has transferred to a big school, Joanne’s spiritual growth goes on. She attends prayer meetings with Nina, goes to confession regularly and consults the Bible out of habit. Her relationship with her son’s yaya, who also took the spiritual seminar, grew by leaps and bounds. The yaya appreciated how Joanne allowed her to share her experiences with fellow nannies and learn from them.
Hennabeh Basi So also swears by Creative Beginners’ Bible studies for moms like her.
"Before, I didn’t know how to pray. I prayed only when I need something. Now, I pray just to thank God for everyday blessings. I thank Him for my family’s safety and good health,’’ she says. Today, she says life has become more peaceful. Her son knows all the saints because he goes to church everyday with her.
From someone who stuttered now and then, he has become an articulate speaker.
Creative Beginners’ spiritual seminars are supervised by the school’s chaplain, Fr. Daniel Polzer. For details, call 635-7374 or 637-7928. You may also call or text 0917-5251009 or 0917-8991009.
