By ARIS R. ILAGAN

CATS Motors, Inc. has opened a new showroom to feature the "American Icons," the Chrysler cars that will soon capture the hearts of Philippine motoring enthusiasts.

"We are here to celebrate the presence of the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands under this very impressive roof in Makati City. This marks another milestone in bringing our household American icons closer to the customers," Dr. Rainer Thiel, president and chief executive officer of DaimlerChrysler-South East Asia, said in his speech.

Thiel, together with CATS Motors chairman Gregorio Yu, and CATS Motors president Felix Ang, led the ribbon cutting ceremonies opening the 5,000-sqm showroom along Pasong Tamo Extension.

The event was also attended by Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC) Undersecretary for Land Transportation Ricky Alfonso and Makati City administrator Nick Santiago who represented Mayor Jejomar Binay.

As distributor of DaimlerChrysler brands and products, CATS Motors – which is also carrying the Mercedes Benz line up – opened its first showroom along EDSA in San Juan.

"We found CATS Motors, Inc. a committed, resourceful and experienced partner in the Philippines. We are extremely pleased about the business progress over the last 18 months," Thiel emphasized.

"The increase of sales and the market’s awareness of all our brands offered in the Philippines is significant. CATS Motors, Inc. now offers customers two Mercedes-Benz and two Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge outlets in the greater Manila area," he added.

At the centerstage of the CATS new showroom is, of course, the Chrysler 300 C luxury sedan that is powered by a Hemi V8. Recently featured in the movie "Firewall" starring Harrison Ford, the Chrysler 300 C immediately caught the attention of many premium sedan lovers.

Also on display are the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Commander from Jeep.

A sturdy Dodge Durango full-size SUV proudly stood in one corner of the showroom.

With the impressive reception from the Filipino car buyers, Thiel said they are poised to introduce more new models this year.

He hinted that the Dodge Caliber, medium-size crossover vehicle equipped with four-cylinder DOHC engine with VVT, will be introduced in the country soon.
