Midas Touch
MOST people who know of Jerome Ang’s work would probably remember his exquisite range of wedding gowns more than anything else. Indeed, his regular clients are blushing brides and their entourages, whose tastes range from modern styles with clean lines and classic silhouettes, to traditional ball gowns with intricate beadwork trailed along a certain visual storyline, to even avant-garde designs with artistic details and dramatic, highly unconventional elements of colors and contrast that one might see more on the catwalk than down the aisle.

Plant Antidote Magic
THERE is no such thing as anti-ageing. Ageing is a fact, a reality, and make no mistake about it, an eventuality. I heard the best way to deal with it is to find ways to accept it graciously and hope for a better way to live with the not-so-graceful signs of ageing, like wrinkles. Besides, I believe that ageing genuinely becomes problematic when one is not successful at living his or her life the way he or she once planned to. All forms of vanity aside, the first wrinkle becomes the catalyst; the first sound of the alarm going off. Some people dismiss and snooze; some wake up. On my own, I am still battling with my first wrinkle, though I’m not about to spend megabucks on cosmetic procedures to start un-wrinkling it just yet. There are a variety of creams and serums that can help, anyway. Most of them are time-release, fancy adjective to explain that help doesn’t come overnight. If it does, when there is, it’s bound to be taken back just as immediately.

Fast fashions and full-on style
AND, of course, I saved the best for last: Barcelona’s fashion. Though it still hasn’t quite achieved a "fashion capital" title like the heavies, New York, Paris and Milan, it’s fast becoming a center for style and design as evidenced by the cultural events drawing multitudes of visitors. Heading the roster would be the Catalonian capital’s showcase of hot designers in Barcelona Fashion week. Sonar, a music and multimedia arts festival, with popular DJs Tiga, Sasha and live sets by Miss Kittin, Goldfrapp, Hot Chip and more famous European DJs and bands. And jeans and streetwear show, Bread and Butter, with over a hundred new names in streetwear fashion under its cavernous tradeshow halls.

People Power and cyber windmills
IT’S the start of the theater season and patrons are scouting for up-and-coming new plays to watch. If you’re new to the theater scene, here’s the line up of plays released by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) for their 39th season.

WIT AND WONDER
WHILE the rest of the pop culture world was abuzz in a post-Black Eyed Peas, post-Pussycat Dolls daze, a faithful few from the small sect of readers braved the rains to have their books signed and hear readings by American humorist David Sedaris. In the Philippines, it’s hard to imagine a local writer getting as much attention. But Sedaris’s readings have been known to pack places like Carnegie Hall, and his albums of his readings have garnered him two Grammys, along with the various writing accolades and praise he has received.

Mexican, with a twist, and a celebrity haunt to boot
IF Kris Aquino did inadvertently apply her Midas touch to anything lately (without the trappings of a commercial endorsement on TV or on billboards along EDSA), it would have to be in Sencillo, a restaurant barely two months old and located a few steps away from ABS-CBN itself in Quezon City.

E-bikes hit the road
Electric bikes, now a popular means of transport in China replacing the good old bicycle, have arrived in the Philippines, ready to serve Filipino riders in short trips around the neighborhood.
