Is it church meddling or duty to right a wrong?
BASED on her reading of the encyclical "Deus Caritas Est" given her by Pope Benedict XVI, President Arroyo has accused Msgr. Deogracias Iñiguez of violating church doctrine, if not also the constitutional provision on the separation of church and state when he filed his impeachment complaint against her.

Energy from rice husks
TODAY, almost everything that we need to fulfill our needs in modern society requires the use of the earth’s resources – land, water, and energy. This situation may not continue in the long term because the increased use of these resources is causing environmental problems and without a satisfactory environment, we cannot live healthy lives.

PPI: Proven guardian of press freedom
I AM greatly honored to be the inducting officer of the 2006 board of trustees of the Philippine Press Institute.

Peaks & valleys of faith
DID you know that Jesus mentioned "television" in the gospel? After the Transfiguration at Mt. Tabor, he said: "Te-le-vision to no one." Read Mark 9:9.

Initiatives on institutions
THE business sector has looked at the two strategic objectives on institutions. These are: To strengthen the drivers of change, particularly the family, the school, and the business enterprise; and to promote effective, efficient, lean government at all levels. It has accepted both of these strategic objectives in the National Road Map, and has proposed several initiatives to help pursue them. But it has also sharpened its commitment by specifying further the need on the part of business to promote a "culture of innovation, research and development;" to "support education;" and to continually upgrade "literacy, knowledge and skills."

Thousands of OFWs expected. And so?
FOR the Foreign Affairs Department hierarchy, Ambassador Al Francis Bichara’s complaint about running out of money needed to evacuate workers in Lebanon was an unforgivable embarrassment.

SAN JOSE, Antique — There’s nothing more accurate and interesting than getting the figures and answers from farmers and folks living in coastal villages.

New challenges for Secretary Lapus
HIS career background shows that he thrives on difficult challenges. Is he up to face one which to many is a no-win situation? It is too early to tell but one thing we can say is that Secretary Jesli Lapus is willing to go all the way to win his critics.

No shining path
THE PNP’s offer of rewards to informers on political killings and the CPP’s announced plan to field NPA assassination squads in retaliation for what it presumes to be government-sponsored killings of activists aren’t likely to give comfort to the citizenry.

‘Bantay Matanda’
"THERE is a need to let people know, that something can be done. I was one of those who didn’t know. I wish I had known…"
