Tying the Knot, Filipino Style Drop the words "Filipiniana-themed wedding" and instantly, images straight from the classic Noli Me Tangere come to mind. Historic churches in Intramuros, quaint banderitas and a luscious buffet spread of lechon, pansit and a colorful assortment of kakanin capture the quintessential "Pinoy" celebration.

Back to Barong Most women have always dreamed about getting married in a church ceremony. While very charming, the only drawback to this is that it requires a male presence in the church to get the party started.

Make the Most of your test make up session Have you ever planned your perfect wedding before you’ve met your perfect man? If you answered no, you belong to 0.0001% of the female population, or probably just in denial. Most of us start fantasizing about weddings when we were little, thanks to fairytales. I used to doodle Princess Diana-inspired bridal gowns complete with puffy sleeves and tiaras, even if I thought I’d never get married. You see, my parents share the same birthday, one year apart, so I used to believe there’s a rule that you can only marry someone with the same birthday. Since no one in my first grade class shared mine, I deduced that I’m doomed to be a matandang dalaga.
With a view of the Sun Imagine a place where the sun gently shines on all celebrations, with lovely flowers and foliage, and with four different and distinct yet beautiful venues to choose from. These are what Ibarra’s Portico del Sol in Kawit, Cavite offers as it opens its doors to the public.
A Filipiniana Afair There is always a sense of fulfillment in capturing the beauty and elegance of the Filipiniana concept in my work. While there are endless possibilities in the use of locally available and native products and materials, the challenge lies in fusing these elements to come up with a contemporary design. This to me is the essence of a modern Filipiniana wedding theme, which is basically a salute to Filipino ingenuity.
Essential Elements of the Filipino Wedding Filipino weddings are reflective of the importance we give to the people in our life– from our family to our friends to our mentors and other people we look up to and respect. It is our symbolic representation of the bonds we have with these people that makes the Filipino wedding distinctive, extending its involvement beyond the usual bridal party. Here, we list down some of the more important elements present in every Filipino wedding:
Buy Pinoy Buy Fair During these trying times, most Filipinos usually settle for the lowest priced item on the market when shopping. Considerations such as whether the company we buy from has responsible business practices don’t even enter our thoughts.
A Middle Earth Wedding A traditional wedding was never an option for me. For one thing, I felt that certain aspects of this, no matter how beautiful, would not suit me. I wanted something different from the pastel colors, embossed invitations with flowers and bells, doves flying around only to be painfully recaptured, or stodgy waiters serving set meals where one had to remember which fork to use. I had some pretty strong opinions, too, about what I wanted to happen. I did not want a solemn and formal affair where everyone would have to be on their best behavior, meaning that they’d be stiff and uncomfortable. I wanted my wedding to be something that my friends and I could enjoy, something that spoke about my husband and me rather than merely about this age-old and often-seen ceremony. Thus, I opted to have a themed wedding. This allowed my husband and me to create a unique and personal affair and to control as many aspects of the wedding as we wanted to.
