BLOG-O-RAMA
The blog world only knows him as the Marketman. For someone who “once flipped hamburgers and fried thousands of pounds of French fries” as a sideline in Boston, his website is surprisingly about the good life, and good food. It seems there is no restaurant, no hideaway, no nook in the world he will not visit in order to indulge in his all-consuming passion for gastronomy. And for sure, his countless readers are grateful enough to learn about treasured recipes, tips, latest foodie discoveries, and insights on global cuisine which the well-traveled Marketman abundantly shares in his site, aptly titled “Marketmanila.” It has become so popular that even foreign readers are taking notice, and has decidedly given dining in Manila and the much-neglected Filipino cookery a new face. More in the following interview:

Nokia N93
Just when I though that I had seen the best of what the mobile phone giants have to offer for the year, Nokia raises the bar higher with the release of the N93 – the ultimate mobile device for spontaneous video recording.

Samsung SGH-P850
Call me cheap. Call me a fake techie. But I still haven’t retired my old Canon 3.2 megapixel digicam. My reason? My digital camera’s 3.2 megapixels have always been sufficient enough for my imaging needs. (Ok, my lack of budget is also a reason.) That is why I still use it and bring it along on special occasions.

BROADBAND
Laptops are getting cheaper and cheaper now, just like their big brothers the desktop computers. And the coming of the Intel-based Macintosh laptops spiced up the market even more.

WirelessWorld
Sixty-three percent of parents who use text messaging believe that it improves their communication with their children, according to a recent Cingular survey on text messaging and parents conducted by Mediathink. In addition, 65 percent of parents who text say they communicate more frequently with their children when they are away from home and 64 percent said that texting made their kids easier to reach.

Security Secrets and Strategies
The risks associated with using the internet remain high according to Consumer Reports’ latest "State of the Net" survey. Consumer Reports projects that U.S. consumers lost more than billion over the last two years to viruses, spyware, and phishing schemes.

REALITY BITES
For the past years, I have dedicated my life to improving my information technology skills by continuously learning innovations in the areas of computers and mobile technology. Every time I attend a press conference, I make sure that I come prepared expecting my host to be prepared as well. I attend events to learn more from what they have to offer, and in return I share them with my readers.

Last Month in Consumer Electronics
The past month proved itself no less exciting than those that preceded it in terms of developments in the consumer electronics market. While some news involved announcements of new technologies, products and services, the other items were not so heart-warming, having to do with discontinued services and a rise in Internet crime in a country well-known for its law-abiding citizens.

LU! BEAT
From August 11 to 14, 2006, I was in Seoul, Korea to attend the Gravity Festival 2006, the 5th annual Ragnarok Festival and also the event where Gravity showed off its new games. It’s a MMORPGer’s paradise!

New Cordless Phones for Families and Seniors
Two new cordless phones from Siemens have been designed with the needs of families and senior citizens in mind. Test with customers had shown that families with children give a high rating because of the direct calling keys.

PAVING THE WAY FOR RP’S ELECTRONIC COMMERCE
With the emergence of internet service providers all over the country, the internet café boom, the online gaming attracting its own crowd, the increasing demand for wireless technologies and broadband connections, there is indeed enough optimism to bank on the Information Technology market potential. In fact, the business process outsourcing sector has gone out of its way to prove itself to be a major economic player in the IT industry. Recent figures indicated that the country’s IT services, which includes BPOs, is currently pegged at US.3 billion and is expected to double its worth within the next four years.

THE HP COMPAQ PRESARIO V3047 NOTEBOOK
The Presario V3047 measures slightly more than 33 centimeters wide, 24 centimeters in depth, 4 centimeters thick, and weighs about 2.5 kilograms (it weighs about 2.9 kilograms with the AC adapter). The notebook has a thin-and-light form factor that gives a good impression of being portable and compact for people who are always on-the-go.

Of Mac and Tux
I am a bonafide TV addict. When I was a student, I studied while in front of the television set. I really do not know how on earth I managed to do it but I guess I was more attuned to the kids of today - multi-taskers! Now that I am a parent I make it a point not to allow my kids to study in front of the TV (and no, they have not reached the iPod age yet - when they have earphones glued to their ears!) and I wondered why I did it in the first place. Maybe it was used to drowning noise around me while studying or maybe there's another reason, but hey! I survived! I managed to pass all my subjects in UP without a single grade of 5!
