The Australian Old Block Shiraz is the flagship of St. Hallet’s wines.
The 2002 vintage is made from 100% Shiraz grapes, sourced from old vines, ranging in between 60 to 120 years old, from the the Barossa and Eden Valleys.
The wine has complex aromas of coffee, mocha, cigar box, and white pepper combined with plum berries, as well as a gentle bouquet of smoke and spice derived from oak maturation.
Its palate is a mix of game and white pepper flavors blended with chocolate and blackberries characteristic of fruit from the Barossa valley.
The wine is rich and dense with supple tannins , and it has a very deep garnet red color.
It also has an elegant structure and texture.
It is best served decanted two to three hours prior to serving, with red meat and game dishes, plus firm full flavored cheeses like cheddar or Parmegiano Reggiano.
In the cellar, the Old Block Shiraz will mature beautifully over the next 15 to 20 years. And the result will be a rich wine, full of finesse and longevity.
The St. Hallet Old Block is regarded as one of the great icons of the Barossa.
