Better health and better lives for Filipino women
As part of the 60th Anniversary Celebration and Midyear Convention of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (Foundation), Inc. or POGS, Biofemme, Inc., the women’s health care division of United Laboratories, and makers of Doxin (Doxycycline), Hemarate, and Funzela (Fluconazole), gave an educational grant to POGS fellows and members for a one-day pre-convention workshop entitled "Improving the Health Care Response to Violence." This first POGS post-graduate course was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Pasay City recently. Spearheaded by Dr. Susan Pelea-Nagtalon, current POGS president, Dr. Rey de los Reyes, POGS chairman of the Women’s Reproductive Health Advocacy committee and concurrently chairman of the POGS Continuing Medical Education committee and Midyear Convention, the course was ably put together by Dr. Lyra Ruth Clemente-Chua, founding chairperson of the POGS Women’s Advocacy Sub-Committee and 2003 POGS president, and Dr. Sylvia de las Alas-Carnero, co-chair of the POGS Women’s Advocacy sub-committee.

Wesleyan Cardiovascular & Medical Center soon to open
From a medical standpoint, the entry of a new cardiovascular and medical center in the north is construed as a welcome boost to the medical industry. The newly constructed edifice in the progressive province of Nueva Ecija is being touted as the "Heart Center in the North" and for a very good number of reasons, too. Strategically located in Tandang sora Street, in Cabanatuan City, the Wesleyan Cardiovascular and Medical Center (WCMC) is a state-of the-art modern hospital, fully equipped with the latest technology and medical facilities that is comparable to the Philippine Heart Center, the leading hospital in Manila, in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Asuncion siblings champion active lifestyles
Kennie and Kennevic Asuncion are among the world’s best badminton teams. They were also the first Filipinos to qualify for the World Badminton Championships. Their achievements include bronze medals at the SEA Games in Vietnam, silver medals on the recent Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open Badminton Championships and gold medals on 2006 Ballart Eureka International Badminton Championship in Australia and Babolat North Harbour International Badminton Championship in New Zealand. Nevertheless, their success had not changed the Asuncion siblings, "We’re still the same, except that people recognize us now," says Kennie, the elder sister of Kennevic.
