NOISY NOISY MAN'S DAILY DOSE OF RETARD

By Annalyn S. Jusay (now blogging at www.annalyn.net)

Ade Magnaye describes himself as a geek who spends "90 per cent of his day in front of a computer." Still in his early twenties, he is also a bassist, web designer, photographer and editor of the hilarious The Man Blog. It is in his personal site, however, where he vents all his craziness, giving advice to guys who fall for transvestites and who want to impress girls the David Hasselhoff way. The blog's tagline is expectedly called " Your Daily Dose of Retard" and one need not wonder why. Here are the ramblings of a man who's out to amuse himself and others, because life is not to be taken too seriously all the time. "You see, I don't have a lot of friends in real life. That’s why I go online, in order to lure some unsuspecting girl to be my friend. First I'll add her to my Friendster, then I'll set up an eyeball with her, then when I meet her up I'll use all my self-control not to scare her away with my body odor," says he. More in the following interview:

Q. What's the story behind your online moniker "Noisy Noisy Man?" Are you really noisy in real life?

A. It started out when I was with my girlfriend Reese watching a movie. I don't really remember what film it was but I was so excited by it and I started talking. Real loud. So she shushes me. And when I was thinking up of a name for my blog the next day, that scene came into my head. Hence the title. Yeah, it's corny. But at least it's better than my original online moniker, DarkSpear.

Q. When did you start to blog? Did anybody influence you?

A. I started blogging way back in 2003, when I first got a Livejournal account (thanks to the nagging, er, convincing power of my friend Anj Viray). I will never ever show my Livejournal to anyone because the entries contained in it are, um, emo-ish and are not meant for general consumption. However, I stumbled upon The Sneeze (www.thesneeze.com) and the general tone of my blog changed from being "emo" to "unfunny".

But blogging just remained a side hobby and not a serious passion until early this year when I bought my domain and started blogging with a passion. And the appearance of other Filipino humor sites like The Man Blog (www.man-blog.com) helped a lot to encourage me to just write and become progressively retarded in the process. Also, when I was starting to blog seriously Mike Villar (of The Man Blog) inadvertently showed me one of his nipples and that changed my life forever

Q. Why do you blog? Do you ever ask yourself why you waste your time blogging away?

A. Good question. A lot of people have been asking me why I take blogging seriously. I blog as a means to let out stress, because I don't want to be stuck in the "work-sleep-eat-sell drugs on the black market" daily routine. So I don't really consider blogging as a waste of time. It's a way to save me lots of pesos in therapy bills.

Q.  Is there anything you dislike about this activity?

A. You see, I've been spoiled by my readers. I got used to my blog being visited by a deluge of visitors (mostly for the search term "retard porn". No, seriously.) And getting a load of comments in a post or two, so seeing that I don't have a comment for that awesome entry I just posted is a big blow to my ego. Sometimes I call in sick because nobody comments on my blog.

Q. There are gazillions of blogs now in the blogosphere. So how does a newbie get noticed?

A. Be unique. You don't have to spend weeks working on what makes you unique, you just have to write your entries according to your original vision. Don't compromise for the sake of traffic. And since the Blogosphere has real people behind those blogs, it won't help if you befriend them as well.

Q. How many blogs do you maintain? Would you recommend keeping multiple blogs?

A. I maintain three blogs right now, Noisy Noisy Man, my Livejournal, and Too Much Noise (http://ade.i.ph ), an experiment of sorts where I write mostly serious things and not be retarded and obnoxious for once. I also contribute to The Man Blog and was recently inducted into its hallowed editor’s line-up.

I really can't recommend if you want to maintain more than one blog. If you are really passionate about it, why not? Personally, I maintain three blogs because I want to write about lots of things and cramming all the different themes into one blog would turn it into one big convoluted mess.

Q.  How do you choose which topics to post? What topics do you most often write about?

A. I usually write about whatever gets my fancy. If you check my blog out you'll see I write about different things like Shawarma, Steven Seagal, David Hasselhoff, emos, and orgasms. But my most recurring feature would be "Down the Highway: An Advice Column for Emos". It would be hard to describe- you have to read it to understand.

Q. Your blogging habits...

A. An idea usually just hits me at the most inopportune times, like when I'm busy with something and I can't blog about it. So I keep it in my head for the next few hours or until I get the chance to use a computer (yes, my life doesn't revolve around the internet gasp shudder).

But when I get in front of a computer, I just usually surf for stuff to plagiarize, I mean, draw ideas from. My favorite places would be Uncyclopedia (www.uncyclopedia.org) and Encycopedia Dramatica (www.encyclopediadramatica.com).

Q. In your own opinion, what are the qualities of a good blogger? Do you think the author of the Great Filipino Blog has been born?

A. He/she does not have to be a fantastic writer (although respect for the rules of grammar should suffice). A good blogger should be able to bring his/her message across. He/she has to be unique. He/she is able to make his/her voice heard over the fray. And that's a difficult task, seeing that blogs are a dime a dozen nowadays.

I believe that the Great Filipino Blog's author is already born, just lurking in an unseen corner of cyberspace, just waiting for his/her blog to be discovered.

Q. What have been the highlights of your blogging life in the past year?

A. Those would be joining the 1st Philippine Blogcon and meeting, in person, those A-Listers I so idolize (especially that Annalyn Jusay), being inducted into Dash Media, an ambitious blog network that seeks to sort out the awesome from the mediocre from the Filipino blogosphere, and being inducted as well into Man Blog's editor lineup. Finally, seeing that people actually like my blog and most of them return and leave comments would be the biggest highlight of all.

Q. Three most-coveted things on your Christmas wishlist and three things you'd give out if you were to play Santa this holiday season?

A. My wishlist:

An iPod nano (my shuffle is on its last legs, see?) / MacBook Pro / iMac A free year's worth of hosting at Media Temple Sound's new album, "Blue Monsoon"

The three things I would give:

Team Manila (www.teammanlia.com) Shirts! If you're a girl, my seed. More laughs. As times are going crazy, we need loads of laughter.
