Into the heart of the Everest Heroes
spacer

Since becoming the first Filipinos to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, Leo Oracion and Pastor Emata have become icons of strength. Oracion and Emata have proven the time-worn wisdom that challenges are best overcome when fully prepared. Nowadays, they are only too happy to share the secrets of their success.

Despite being adventure racing champs, Oracion and Emata still underwent rigorous training daily to prepare for the climb. These were jogging, exercise, swimming, and biking, among others.

Oracion, a Ten Outstanding Young Men Awardee (TOYM) for 2006, says, "People with heart problems are usually not allowed to climb Everest. Because there is oxygen deficiency at high altitude, your blood pressure shoots up. You might even suffer a stroke."

They also closely watched their diet. Oracion relates, "We avoided fatty foods because a high cholesterol level makes one tire easily and run the risk of cardiac failure."

To keep their hearts healthy, their diet was mostly made up of fish, vegetables, and fruits. Meat consumption was at a minimum. They also went for healthier alternatives for protein such as taho.

For people who want their heart to perform at its optimum, Oracion recommends a healthy lifestyle. "Cut down, if not eliminate, alcohol intake. This weakens the heart and the body," he says. He likewise suggests exercises such as swimming, running, and biking to build cardiac strength.

Emata adds that preparation, discipline and consistency play a pivotal role in helping one prepare for highly strenuous activities. He says, "In mountain climbing and other sports requiring a healthy heart, there are no shortcuts. You should eat right, exercise, and live healthy not only during the months leading to the climb but also all year round."

Constantly searching for food sources that will help optimize cardiac performance, Oracion and Emata are delighted to discover Nesvita ProHeart with Acticol. Nesvita ProHeart with Acticol, the first of its kind milk for adults, contains plant sterols that effectively block bad cholesterol from being absorbed by the body. This in turn makes the liver more capable of removing bad cholesterol from the circulation. Studies have proven that drinking two glasses of Nesvita ProHeart everyday reduces LDL cholesterol or bad cholesterol by 7 percent in 30 days.

Nesvita ProHeart is a product of Nestle, a company committed to enriching the lives of the people.
