How to have a merry Christmas
BACK to BASICS: Eric Dela Cruz
It’s the yuletide season and before you get buried under tons of last-ditch paperwork and lost in your last-minute shopping, make sure you don’t get left out in the celebration of gift-giving. What better way to celebrate the holidays than by giving yourself the ultimate treat – or treatment?
Get Pampered
It’s time to take that relaxing trip to the spa. Get that rejuvenating facial to help retard those creepy eight or seven signs or so of skin ageing. Have your whole body scrubbed to get rid of all the skin-deep stress that accumulated from your successive business trips. Get steamed to release all your anxieties and not because you missed the deadline. And don’t forget to enlist for a soothing, whole-body massage to get your system to circulate properly and not have all your blood pooling in your head.
Poof! Be Gone
Head out of town and get away from the bustling city life with its stress-bearing traffic, claustrophobic streets and nauseating environment. Opting for a change in scenery can help shake off the tension building into your system. Take that chance to get a breath of fresh air and utilize the quiet time to contemplate on the more relevant queries in life.
You can also go hit the waters and drown all your worries away. Swimming can be therapeutic to most people and an effective means of relaxation. While you’re there, get some sun. Sunlight can decrease the accretion of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone in the body that regulates sleep, to help drive those holiday blues away. Not to mention, a gorgeous tan is always a plus.
Be a Home Buddy
If you’ve been up and about early for work all time, you’d surely appreciate catching up on some sleep. Stay at home and slumber deep. As soon as you get yourself energized, pop in all those movies you’ve missed in your player and enjoy the marathon.
G is for Gluttony
If it’s just those flabs that make you fret and watch your weight, then it wouldn’t hurt if you’d live a little and indulge in a feast of all the goodies you’ve been avoiding. Think of it as a kilocaloric cheat day. Better yet, experience some fine dining with the best gourmet dishes you been longing to devour. Pick the best wine you can afford and have a guilt-free swig. In that case, this will probably be the right time to make that plan to continue your gym membership next year.
Shop ‘Til You Drop
Now is the best time to buy the things you’ve been yearning for. Splurge on new clothes for your wardrobe. Update your accessories by purchasing a brand-new watch or bling. Go sole searching and buy a new pair of shoes.
If gadgets are your thing, get yourself that gorgeous new device you’ve been eyeing for months. Whether you want to groove to your new iPod video or make movies with your new mobile phone, it’ll surely be a valuable purchase. And, if you’ve already formed an indissoluble bond with your loyal laptop and unwilling to part with it, you can always have it upgraded with the latest accessories. It wouldn’t be a bad time to start learning new technologies if you’ve been living in the Stone Age. Soon you’ll find out what all the fuss is about and realize how these contraptions can be worthy investments.
Hover like a Social Bug
If it weren’t for modern technology, I’m sure your buddies would have already filed for missing persons on your account. Meet up and spend some time with your buddies or loved ones. It will not be just a holiday treat for you but for them as well.
Make a Wish List
Of course, you can’t buy it all for yourself, so make a list of the things you want for Christmas and send it to you friends and family. At least, if they plan on giving you something, they’ll have a good chance of getting it right. And if they don’t plan on giving you anything this year, it’s a sure way of letting them know you’re very well expecting something.
