Manila (dpa) - The Philippine government on Thursday declared a four-day unilateral Christmas truce with communist rebels, but offensives against Muslim militants would continue during the holidays in the country's troubled south.
General Hermogenes Esperon, armed forces chief of staff, said President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo approved his recommendation for the ceasefire with the communist rebels.
