The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECoP) this week announced the election of its new set of officers for the year 2007 led by Atty. Miguel B. Varela as chairman and Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis, Jr. as president. Ortiz-Luis has also been reelected President of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT).
Varela, on the other hand, is chairman of the Manila Bulletin and Philippines Inc. former President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and two-term President of ECoP.
The rest of the highest officers of the organization made up of the top 1,000 corporations in the Philippines were: Ancheta K. Chan – President Emeritus, and Rene Y. Soriano, the outgoing President as Honorary President.
Voted in as members of the Board of Governors, the governing and policymaking body of ECoP were: Aniano G. Bagabaldo, executive vice president of PHILEXPORT, Rene E. Cristobal, Claus Sudchoff, Feliciano L. Torres, Rnauilfo P. Payos, Jimmy T. Tang, Donald G. Dee, Francisco R. Floro, Henry T. Co, Mario Manon, and Fe Palilio.
ECOP is one of the most matured and oldest business federations in the Philippines. It has been the chief advocate of harmonious labor-management relations, corporate productivity and competitiveness, human resource management and reforms in labor relations policy.
