The Lopez Group of Companies heeded the call of its chairman to extend the Kapamilya sharing and caring spirit to victims of super typhoon Reming which devastated Bicol and other southern provinces.
Lopez Group Chairman Oscar M. Lopez, through his Lopez Group Foundation, Inc., requested the heads of companies to immediately assist the affected families of employees and other victims in various provinces.
After a few weeks, the companies internally raised more than five million pesos, not including the donated goods and volunteer time of the employees.
Some LGFI members became resourceful in raising funds. The Manila North Tollways Corporation gave up their calendar launch and employee Christmas party so that the saved amount can be donated.
The Tollways Management Corporation’s untouched prize money for winning the Oscar Lopez Business Excellence awards for customer service was also donated.
First Philippine Industrial Development Corporation (FPIDC), First Philippine Industrial Corporation (FPIC), First Philippine Holdings Corporation, First Philec, FEDCOR, and Philec immediately responded with financial assistance.
Employees of First Gen Corporation voluntarily donated and entered a salary reduction scheme to raise funds for the victims.
A thirty-seven man team from Meralco was dispatched to Bicol and other affected areas to help restore electricity. Meralco has also partnered with National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and Gawad Kalinga to bring relief goods to affected areas. (JAL)
