‘Jumong’: Korea’s No. 1 series for 2006 now on GMA-7

GMA Network opens 2007 with a bang as it premieres Korea’s one and only No. 1 series for 2006, Jumong, on its top-rating primetime block, replacing "A Rosy Life." A legend will begin today, Jan. 8, about a hero larger than life and a love bigger than history which will soon captivate Filipino viewers, in line with GMA-7’s commitment to bringing only the best Korean dramas to Philippine television.

In the tradition of the phenomenal "Jewel in the Palace," Korea’s No. 1 Series for 2004 which also made waves in the country, "Jumong" is also an inspiring hero’s tale truly meant for family-viewing, balancing perfectly the elements that viewers of all ages would surely appreciate. Young and male viewers will certainly enjoy the action-packed battle scenes and stunning visual effects, while the female viewers would be moved by the compelling love story, wonderful storytelling, and the great cast that portrays it. All of these contributed to the program’s success in Korea, where it is in fact still running, after it has been extended due to insistent public demand.

This period drama is based on the life of a real Korean hero, Jumong (to be played by the handsome Song Il Gook, also seen in QTV Channel 11’s "Emperor of the Sea"), which is also inspiring like that of Jewel’s Jang Geum. Witness how Jumong will grow up to be the hero whose legacy to the Korean people is his great historical triumph against thousands of armies to win back the skies of his old kingdom, the Old Joseon, and establish what would become the great Goguryeo Dynasty. Jumong dares to journey into a time in Korea’s history when the nation was at its most beautiful and made up of people who fought other nations without any fear. And true love, which is not usually manifest in any history, is re-drawn through this drama about Korea’s once forgotten period.

Jumong grows up the son of Geum Wa (Jeun Kwang Reul) and Yu Hwa (Oh Yun Soo) without knowing who his real father is. He longs for the chance to one day meet his father, which he is not certain would come. He falls in love with So Seo-no (Han Hye Jin), who happens to be the same woman that his stepbrother, Dae So (Kim Seung Soo), is after. Dae So will do everything to take So Seo-no away from Jumong, but will he succeed? And having lost his father’s love to Jumong, Dae So will also commit his life to making Jumong’s life miserable. Yet all the trials and sadness that Jumong bore all his life will not get in the way of his destiny.

"Jumong" is sure to become another unforgettable drama on Philippine TV, especially with its heart-rending theme song "Hold On" performed by Shamrock. A grand history unfolds weeknights starting Monday, Jan. 8, after "Bakekang" on GMA Telebabad.
