An individualized prescription comprising a multi-disciplinary approach in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of the VRP Medical Center, is being prescribed for patients who suffered a stroke, the most prevailing cause of disability in the Philippines.
Gone were the days when revolutionary therapeutic interventions are just a pipe dream. When the late US President Franklin Roosevelt was struck with poliomyelitis, he managed to survive and regain his muscular function with the help of physical therapy. Prior to this, decrease in mortality only increased the rate of disability or handicap.
So, VRP Medical Center sets modern physical medicine and rehabilitation techniques as an important convention especially in severe impairment, deformities and neuromuscular conditions. Addressing these impairments touch not only the physical but also the emotional and social aspect of the problems and strive to make people experience the true quality of life.
The center’s Physical Therapy section works toward the function restoration of patients in their motor functions particularly their motor functions’ range of motion and strength through the use of physical modalities.
The Occupational Therapy section restores, reinforces and enhances activity performance like self-care, vocational skills and home management, facilitates the learning and skills and functions essential to self-care and productivity.
The Speech Therapy section provides evaluation of cognitive and communication impairments as it treats both adults and children with voice, articulation, hearing and language problems. The different sections realize its multi-disciplinary approach with the implementation of their interrelated functions.
Along with its many services for rehabilitation patients, the Rehabilitation Department also handles musculoskeletal cases such as back pain, carpal tunnel and arthritis.
Delivering beyond physical healing and with the dynamic changes of treatment approaches in the acquisition of new tools and medical equipment, VRP Medical Center continues to strive to fulfill its goal of improving the quality of life for its patients.
