A total of 123 Young Explorer computer units have been given to 115 schools and institutions by IBM Philippines.
KidSmart is IBM’s comprehensive Learning Program designed to support children from pre-school to Grade 3 in their early quest for knowledge. KidSmart uses IBM’s Young Explorer product which is a personal computer that is encased in Little Tikes furniture and has pre-loaded software from Edmark. It also includes a three-day teacher training program conducted by EduQuest.
The KidSmart program is a global initiative executed across regions and in the country through IBM's Corporate Community Relations (CCR) team. It is part of a very clear community strategy to raise standards in education via technology and to bridge the digital divide to ensure equal success.
The project was implemented in partnership with EduQuest, Inc., IBM's training partner for KidSmart Early Learning Program; Mirant Philippines Foundation, Department of Education and the Iloilo local government.
Turnover ceremonies were led by James G. Velaquez, IBM Country General Manager; Jose Leviste, Jr. Chairman of Mirant Philippines Foundation; Sec. Esperanza Cabral of DSWD and Councilor Jose Espinosa III of Iloilo LGU.
"We are proud of our on-going Kidsmart initiative, as it has been proven to be instrumental in bridging the digital divide through education. The IBM Kidsmart Learning Program is a great example of our continued commitment to the development of public education in the Philippines," said James Velasquez.
