Jabra’s Dynamic Duo: BT260s Headset And A125s Adapter
spacer

By Carlo S. Suerte Felipe

That’s the reason why people want to go wireless? Because they don’t want to have those wires hanging around like snakes or worms. If you always carry an mp3 player with you, you cannot avoid having an earphone’s wire around you and it is really annoying. It also makes an unfashionable statement, especially for fashionistas. (I don’t mind the wires unless my gadget has Bluetooth.)

If you have an iPod (of any model except for the Shuffle), for it to go wireless you will need a Bluetooth adapter. With that, you earphones or headset will have to be Bluetooth capable also. Jabra’s solution for this problem: the BT 620s and the A125s.

The BT 620s is a Bluetooth headset in the form of a backphone. Backphones have become a popular design because, unlike conventional headphones, it doesn’t make you look like you are wearing a headband. It also doesn’t fall off your head when you move your head back and forth. Backphones also have that curve shape near each speaker which is a snug fit to the top of your ears.

Now, the speakers of the BT 620s carry several buttons. Basically, each speaker carry three buttons. The flat side of each speaker is actually a button. The left side (your left when you are wearing the headset) is the power button, and the right side is the play/pause/stop button. each side has LED ring indicators that will tell you if the headset is turned on, pairing with other devices, or low on battery.

Also, you will notice two silver buttons located on the ring side on each side of the speaker. Those with the "+" and "-" signs control the volume, and those with the arrow signs lets you skip, rewind, and fast forward tracks.

Regarding the A125s Bluetooth adapter, this looks like a small box which has a dock connector for the iPod, a LED multi-function button, and a charging socket. This gadget is basically connected to an iPod after being paired with a Bluetooth headset.

Both gadgets are built with their own internal batteries to power them up, and can be charged either via USB or by AC power supply. The BT 620s pack comes with an AC adapter while the A125s comes with a USB cable. According to the A125s’ manual, you can use the AC adpater of the BT 620s or other Jabra-approved chargers to charge the A125s. It’s a funny thing to see that the manual for the BT 620s doesn’t state how long the device should be charged. For the A125s, the manual said that the device must be fully charged for up to 7 hours before use.

Pairing both devices to each other was quite easy, just like any Bluetooth device paired with a mobile phone. The only difference is that no passcode must be entered.

Unless you will use the BT 620s as your mobile phone’s headset (after all, it’s a multimedia Bluetooth headset), you will need to input a passcode on your phone. In my test, it shows that the BT 620s is fully compatible with Nokia phones. But with other phone brands, there was a slight problem. Well, it can be used as a standard Bluetooth device for calls, but it can’t be used as a multimedia backphone (like when I played audio files on three other phones, no sound came out of the BT 620s).

Anyways, when you have paired both devices, you just plug the A125s Bluetooth adapter to your iPod and press play. At that point, there’s no need to touch your iPod and you can store it in you pocket because you can play/pause, raise or lower the volume, and skip tracks through the BT 620s’ controls.

So, how do I find the BT 620s and the A125s? It’s a perfect pair, honestly. Also, the A125s Bluetooth adapter is compatible with the remastered iPod Nano. I connected it to one and it worked. But one of my officemates said that if he skips songs often, the headset suddenly loses connection with one side of the speaker, and then totally gets disconnected. But there was no problem when I listened to it continuously without doing any skips on tracks. In case you want to use the BT 620s for your mobile phone, make sure it’s a Nokia brand to be able to use its full potential.
