Young and popular heartthrobs Sam Milby and Cogie Domingo will lead the opening tomorrow, Jan. 28, of One Greenhills Shopping Plaza, located at the corner of Annapolis and Eisenhower Sts. Situated beside O.B. Montessori, the four-storey tianggetype mall is a business venture between Cogie and his father, Atty. Rod Domingo and some investors.
The blessing, ribbon-cutting and inaugural ceremonies will start at 9 a.m. and at 2-4:30 p.m. a special free concert will be held at the main entrance of the shopping mall. To perform, aside from Sam Milby, are Shirley and D’Empire Band, Cherry Lou, Chokoleit (who will also host the program), Lovi Poe and Cogie of course. Lovi and Cogie are the celebrity endorsers of Aficionado Perfume Germany, one of the major sponsors of the event. Cogie and Lovi, who are good friends, are in the cast of GMA 7’s toprating soap opera "Bakekang."
Autograph-signing follows every after performance of the guest artists.
There is already an abundance of shopping malls in Greenhills and so Atty. Domingo and Cogie were asked why they put up this kind of business, and they said that there’s always room for another one; after all the Philippines isn’t called the "Shopping Capital of Asia" for nothing. "There is still a demand as long as the merchandise is reasonably priced," Atty. Domingo said.
They’ve also been asked why they decided to do business together since the popular belief is that one shouldn’t go into business with one’s family because emotions and business sense never mix. The father and son tandem of Rod and Cogie is out to prove this isn’t so.
One Greenhills Shopping Plaza Mall is a fully airconditioned, multi–level shopping area with about 300 tianggetype stalls offering everything from fashion apparel to cellphones and electronics. Cogie has his own stall as he plans to sell car accessories. "Mahilig kasi ako sa mga gadgets para sa kotse," he explained. He also said he decided to become a partner in the mall because he loves to shop. And what does he end up buying? "I shop for necessities. Lalo na mga damit, because being in showbiz, I need clothes for shows and live appearances. I also enjoy shopping for car accessories."
Atty. Domingo is a well-known human rights lawyer, but what people don’t know about him is that he started out as a retailer. His parents used to have a small grocery in Sampaloc where they lives, and Atty. Domingo, who was in high school then, would help out in the store. "Nagtatakal ako ng bigas tuwing hapon," he said. Because of that, he learned to appreciate the value of money and hard work, lessons that he passed on to his own children, who include young actor Cogie.
And while he eventually went on to study law and become a ptractising lawyer, he never forgto his humble beginnings. Such that when the opportunity to become a retailer presented itself last year, he together with several business partners, quickly seized the chance.
One Greenhills Shopping Plaza aims to combine the best of the tiangge experience with the comfort in more upscale shopping malls. The place also has escalators and elevators that make moving from floor to floor easy for shoppers. There are clean restrooms with running water and fire escapes; aa well as ATM machines, all for the convenience of the shoppers.
There is also an exclusive access path that will take them directly from Barangay West Crame (which is located behind the building) through the shopping area on the ground floor, exiting onto Eisenhower St. One Greenhills Shopping Plaza is easily reachable by public transportation, since jeeps regularly pass through Barangay West Crame. For those with private cars, they can either take Annapolis or Ortigas. Parking spaces are available within the vicinity, and an additional parking area is being constructed on one of the upper floors.
All this will make One Greenhills Shopping Plazan an attrative shopping destination for everyone who likes to savor the shopping experience it offers.
