Pacquiao fight is sure – but where?
spacer

By NICK GIONGCO

MANNY PACQUIAO’S April 28 clash with In Jin Chi is almost a done deal. But as to where the bout is to be held is everybody’s concern now.

The bout is scheduled at the Wynn Hotel & Casino in Macau, which is replica of the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao confidant Wakee Salud, who was in the former Portuguese colony last week, said there’s still no suitable venue at the hotel complex that could accommodate a big number of spectators.

"It’s still being built right now in time for the April fight," said Salud.

The other concern of Pacquiao camp is that Western-style boxing is not popular in Macau where casinos mushroomed almost every nook and corner of the city.

But most of the tourists there are usually Chinese and Taiwanese who can give Pacquiao’s rival a big boost.

"The fight with Injin Chi is almost a done deal," said Pacquiao’s lawyer Franklin Gacal yesterday.

Mike Koncz, the Canadian adviser of the Filipino lefty, echoed the same sentiment but made it clear that nothing is final since both fighters have yet to put their signatures above the dotted line.

"Even if the two fighters say that they’d be fighting each other, that’s not final yet," said Koncz.

This is why, according to Koncz, they are going to the US to meet with Top Rank big boss Bob Arum to finalize the details of the bout.

"It’s going to be a short business trip," said Koncz, who was supposed to join Pacquiao and Gacal on last night’s Philippine Airlines flight to Los Angeles.

"The boss (Pacquiao) doesn’t feel like flying tonight," added Koncz.

Arum had asked Pacquiao to fly to Los Angeles so they’d be together when Arum makes a big announcement regarding Pacquiao’s next fight next week.

Even some hotel officials in Macau have not heard of Arum’s plan to stage a grand boxing bout in their place.
