FAR EASTERN University kept the UAAP Season 69 men’s football lead by beating University of Santo Tomas, 2-1, Thursday at the Ateneo Blue Eagle field in Katipunan.
The Tamaraws, who drew both goals from ace striker Romnick Jover, notched their third win in as many outings.
Jover scored in the 14th and 18th minutes, sandwiching Ateneo’s lone goal in the 15th minute courtesy of Lester Sobremisana.
The Tamaraws only needed to play solid defense the rest of the way to frustrate the Tigers, who remained in second spot in the five-team field with 2-1-1 (win-loss-draw).
Ateneo notched its first win of the season by nipping University of the East, 1-0, in the other men’s match also Thursday.
Jeremiah Clemente booted in the marginal goal in the 50th minute for Ateneo, now 1-1-1. UE is at the cellar with 0-3-0, behind idle UP (1-2-0).
Tomorrow’s matches ending the first-round eliminations also at the Ateneo field pits UP against Ateneo at 1 p.m. and FEU trying to preserve its hold of the lead against UE at 3 p.m.
The women’s matches also set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. will have UP (0-2-0) going up against Ateneo (0-1-1) and FEU (1-0-1) against UST (0-2-0).
Fencing in Season 69, meanwhile, gets going Feb. 10 and 11 at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym, while badminton at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall will reel off Feb. 17 and 18.
