Google - Not Just A Search Engine

When you hear the word Google, the first thing that comes to mind is that it’s a search engine. You may be surprised to know that Google is more than that - the search toolbar that is. Google comes with a number of hidden features that are not only fun but also very useful. Here are some of its features:

1. Calculator

If you need to do simple calculations, such as simple addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*) and division (/), you can rely on Google to help you. On the search bar, type 5+7 and Google will display 12.

Google can also do advanced calculations like trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric functions, hyperbolic functions and logarithmic functions.

2. Conversion Table

Google can also handle conversions. You can convert one unit of measurement to another. You can enter 1 meter in feet or convert 1 kilometer to meters.

If you want to determine the conversion rate of a particular currency to another currency type 1 dollar to Philippine peso.

3. Dictionary

Google can also be your dictionary. All you have to do is to type what is clandestine. Google returns a standard search results page, as well as a definition section at the top of the page.

4. Fact Based Information

Do you need some important facts about certain things? Like birthday, birthplace, population, Presidents and more? For example, do you need to know the birthday of a certain personality - let us say President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo? All you need to do is type birthday gloria arroyo on the search toolbar and the result will give you the President’s birthday - April 5, 1947.

To determine the population figure of a certain country simply type population Philippines. To know who the President is for a certain country, type President Canada.

5. Glossary

Google also comes with a neat feature called Glossary. If you want Google Glossary to provide a more specific explanation of a certain word or phrase, use the operator "define:".

So if you want to know what the word clandestine means, on the search bar, simply type define:clandestine (no spaces between) and Google will display a definition page for your query.

For phrase queries, put the phrase in quotation marks -- define:"wall to wall".

The information displayed by Google is as accurate as what is available on the web. If you doubt the result, do a complete search instead.

Have fun!
