National Bible Week and National Bible Sunday NO other volume has been accorded as much respect and significance as the Bible, with translations in almost all languages of the world and in nearly all the major dialects and languages of the Philippines. Its uniqueness rests on its ability to transcend generations and cultures. In presenting a landscape of the past, present, and future of humankind, the Bible becomes an excellent source of principles, standards, and values for personal and social conduct, just and equitable governance, and the development of the spiritual and moral fiber of the citizenry.
US in Iraq: Unlearned lesson from Phil. war IN an interview with Marites Vitug published in Newsweek last 22 January 2007, I said: "The US military has invaded, occupied, and administered only two countries in its history. One is Iraq now, and the other was the Philippines more than 100 years ago during the period 1899 to 1913. Today, the US is heavily committed to a peace-keeping role, and a self-assigned mission to effect democratic regime change in Iraq. Regime change would have been easy enough, and that was done very quickly by US military forces, supported by troops from the ‘Coalition of the Willing.’ But democratic regime change is something else – more complex, drawn-out, and costly. How do you put in democracy in a country like Iraq? We went through that experience ourselves. And we here in the Philippines could speak with great authority on the struggle for independent nationhood characterized by freedom and democracy. To establish democratic institutions, a democratically-oriented people, and an overall culture of democracy and rule of law is very difficult if the effort is coming from the outside. It is most enduringly established if it is coming from among the people themselves."

Don’t just read the Bible SOME time ago a minister told this story about his experience. One night he went over to the church to lock it up for the night. He found a boy asleep in the last pew. He woke the boy apologetically, and told him he was going to lock up.
Comelec accredits PPCRV I WELCOME with some reservations the recent accreditation by Comelec of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) as its citizen’s aim in the May 14, 2007 elections. The Comelec acknowledged that for the last 15 years, PPCRV has consistently worked for honest, clean, credible and peaceful elections. Its membership has increased since the May 10, 2004 elections. During that election PPCRV had 500,000 members and volunteers from 2,670 parishes nationwide, who participated in poll watching and other election related activities.
