With the recent killing of Judge Nathaniel Patugalan and unabated threats among other criminal judges, there are renewed calls for the proposal to issue members of judiciary with firearms to protect themselves. Moreso, the Supreme Court have publicly exclaimed that they cannot protect all the judges in the country.

Almost a hundred bishops attended Friday’s opening of the 94th Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) at the Pope Pius XII Center on United Nations Avenue in Paco, Manila.
Out of the 129 members of the CBCP, 102 being active and 27 honorary, only 99 bishops (93 active and 6 honorary) were able to make it last Friday to the opening of the three-day gathering, said Roy Lagarde of the CBCP Media Office.
