MANNY PACQUIAO will have enough time to campaign for the May 14 polls.
Top Rank revealed yesterday that the fight with Jorge Solis of Mexico has been moved to April 14 from April 21 in San Antonio, Texas, so the Filipino star can head back to the Philippines and catch up on the campaign trail.
Pacquiao is eyeing either the mayoralty of GenSan or a Congress seat in South Cotabato and Top Rank’s Bob Arum was able to switch with the date with a fellow promoter from the US East Coast who was planning to put on a card for April 14.
"I just got on the phone with Top Rank and the fight is now going to happen on April 14 so Manny can return to the Philippines and campaign," said Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Mike Koncz.
The elections are going to be held on May 14.
"That’s final," said Pacquiao lawyer Franklin Gacal, who also spoke with Arum on the phone yesterday.
Pacquiao said he will either fly to Los Angeles to begin training at the Wild Card Boxing Club under Freddie Roach right-hand man Justin Fortune late this month or early-March.
Meanwhile, Fortune told fightnews.com that he is not concerned about the situation inside Team Pacquiao.
"I think that Manny likes organized chaos. With all the things that’s been going on, it doesn’t seem to bother him. It might make US all crazy, but it doesn’t bother him in the least. I think he lets everyone else get bothered by it, and he just sorta hangs out, does his work and that’s the end of it. I think Manny thrives on chaos. Ever since I’ve known him, there’s always something going on -— some sort of chaos. But nothing bothers him. He just keeps on fighting and bashing his opponents," said Fortune, who will preside over Pacquiao’s training in the absence of Roach.
Roach has signed to exclusively train Oscar De La Hoya for a May 5 fight in Las Vegas.
