The Sony Network Walkman S200 series, composed of the NW-S203F and the NW-S205F, is designed for health buffs. These models are a Network Walkman, an FM tuner, a calorie counter, a pedometer and a stopwatch all rolled into one. The models’ sports functions will help users set and achieve their target workout.
The flagship offering of these two Network Walkman models is the built-in pedometer that enables users to track the number of steps taken, distance traveled and calories burned through the workout. All the users have to do is input height, weight and stride distance while running or walking into the player; and then the set target feature will allow users to input the amount of time, calories or distance he or she wants to achieve for the workout. The music will play on until the target is accomplished.
Users can also create a soundtrack for their activities with the NW-S203F and NW-S205F Music Pacer Feature. Through this feature, these gadgets can detect pace, whether the user is running, walking or at rest, and will activate a preset playlist accordingly. Just add songs to the two preset playlists via the bundled SonicStage software or create extra playlists and designate any of them as a reference for running or walking.
The Walkman NW-S200 series also makes shuffling of music easy: a triple shake of the player switches the shuffle mode between "ON" and "OFF" mode.
Both models come in a fashionable design. Their unique, one-line organic electroluminescence (EL) displays provide a high-quality look that exudes elegance. Information about the music, settings and even time and date through the EL display in any lighting condition is possible. Navigation is facilitated by a modern and stylish control knob. The control knob is placed on a slider so it can be shifted vertically into three different positions: the first is for skipping songs by folders, the second is for browsing menu items and the third acts as a "lock/unlock" switch. When assigned to any of these three positions, twist the knob horizontally (left or right) to browse through the items.
The cylindrical body fits securely in an included armband, which straps comfortably around the arm for jogging or workouts. These models are also water resistant and weigh less than one ounce. The 2GB NW-S205F and 1GB NW-S203F can store up to 1,350 songs and 685 songs, respectively.
Both models support AAC (non-DRM), MP3, WMA (non-DRM), and ATRAC® music.
