Now meet two accomplished women who do more than excel in their chosen fields.
Sandra Araullo is an inspiring picture of balance. Aside from being a champion triathlete, she is also a student completing her Master’s Degree in Physics at the University of the Philippines, where she also teaches college Physics.
"It is my innate curiosity about the world and appreciation of nature that led me to the sciences," she says. Thus far, her academic life has been nothing short of fulfilling. "It is my first year as an instructor and I am enjoying it tremendously. I dare say my students are enjoying it as well," she shares.
Araullo gets asked many times how she is able to squeeze in her schooling with sports. She smiles, "The truth is, I really don’t know. When I want to accomplish something, I just go for it with everything I’ve got."
Just as she is committed to schooling, so Araullo is dedicated to being a triathlete, an endurance multi-sport that includes swimming, cycling, and running. She says, "The discipline involved in doing sports at a competitive level demands a lot of hard work and sacrifice."
Araullo has been in the sport for almost seven years now. She is currently the women’s national champion. To date, she has competed in two world championships and three Asian championship events. In December 2005 when the Philippines hosted the Southeast Asian Games, she won for the country the second over-all female in triathlon.
Pia Boren, on the other hand, credits her racecar success to the discipline and hard work she nurtured as a go-kart enthusiast. Boren’s hard work paid off: she became the first female to drive a Formula 3 car. She states, "I knew I had to step up my competitive spirit when I became a racer. I had to hone a different set of skills and adjust to a new discipline, which proved to be a little more physically demanding."
"Of course, I still have a life," Boren chuckles. Away from the tracks, she hangs out with friends and enjoys the occasional nightouts and restaurant-hopping.
Indeed, despite their busy schedules, Araullo and Boren are making efforts to balance their social, academic, and sporting lives. They are taking care of their well-being to be able to enjoy life to the fullest. In fact, for people like them who lead diverse, active lifestyles, the right kind of food is paramount.
Take Nesvita’s Cereal Milk Drink, for example. It is calcium-rich milk for healthier and stronger muscles, teeth, and bones. It contains fiber-filled wheat that flushes out toxins from one’s system, plus vitamins and minerals to help the body cope with stress.
