SAN BEDA College won its sixth straight football championship by sweeping the double-round elimination of the 82nd NCAA men’s football tournament at the PhilSports field recently.
The Red Lions, handled by national football coach Aris Caslib, beat Philippine Christian University Dolphins, 5-0, for its final victory.
Gerald Orcullo of San Beda was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament while teammates Roxy Dorlas and Jeffrey Liman were named Best Striker and Best Midfielder, respectively.
Other winners in the tournament hosted by Jose Rizal U were Everett Preston of Mapua (Best Defender) and Sofronio Llevares of College of St. Benilde (Best Goalkeeper).
Caslib was named Coach of the Year while the Mapua Cardinals won the Fair Play Award.
The San Beda Red Cubs, however, were not as lucky as the Lions lost to La Salle Green Hills Greenies, 6-0, in the finals.
Meanwhile, San Beda retained the men’s swimming title while LSGH captured the juniors championship of the event.
In chess, PCU made a strong case for the overall championship as both its senior and junior teams won the title. PCU also won the men’s table tennis plum while St. Benilde and Letran bagged the women’s and juniors championships, respectively.
Named MVP in the three divisions are Japeth Adosa (PCU), Cecille Niemo (CSB) and Raymond Manlapaz (Letran).
