Watching IT Banned mostly by critics and industry analysts, Vista proved its detractors wrong by driving sales of personal computers in the U.S. market. These people, some of whom equate being cool with being anti-Microsoft, had lots of humble pie coming their way. Sales of PCs for the week after Bill Gates introduced his company’s latest operating system to consumers in January (Corporate users could buy Vista-equipped computers since November last year.) grew 67 percent over figures posted in the same week the previous year.
Java Champion’s Corner I have written quite a number of "guest" articles on Java. Being one of the two Java Champions in the Philippines, I owe it to the entire Java community to continue advocating Java in the Philippines. Whilst I have my own blog, Advocrazy, where I crazily advocate (hence the title) Linux/FOSS, Mac and Java, I have decided to extend the reach via a dedicated Java column here at TechNews (thanks to my editor, of course - salamat, boss Art!).
Of Macs & Tux If you are like most people who are pretty much always on-line, then chances are you have an instant messaging (IM) client or two running in the background. (To others like some of the UP staff, the instant messaging client is THE application) Yahoo! Messenger gets the most popular vote followed by MS Messenger, AIM/iChat, Google Talk and ICQ but not necessarily in that order. Other applications such as Skype, Gizmo Project and Jabber also provide instant messaging features. These applications provide a way for your peers, friends or buddies to know if you are available for chat or not via the online status that gets propagated to your peers. Some folks, like me, prefer to be "invisible" because I find some folks just do not know how to respect your "on-line status" and would simply fire those chat requests even if it is not important. Don’t get me wrong but unless it is urgent, please do leave me alone. :)

REALITY BITES "For the saved, death ushers us into the presence of Christ. “To be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23). So real is the promise of the believer’s resurrection, that the physical death of a Christian is called “sleep” (1 Corinthians 15:51; 1 Thessalonians 5:10). We look forward to that time when “there shall be no more death” (Revelation 21:4)."
